Containment & Enclosure Systems

Our product line now includes Debris Netting, Hoarding Tarps, Safety Netting, Flame Retardant Construction Tarps, Shrink Wrap and Insulated Tarps.

Frame & Brace

Frame Scaffolds are the most commonly used scaffolding in Commercial and Residential applications. Available in many sizes and styles, Frame Scaffolds are easy to erect and typically do not require as much expertise as other types of Scaffolds. Versatility is increased by the availability of various components and accessories making Frame Scaffolds the most popular for many scaffolding applications. Armour Equipment has an extensive and diverse inventory with specialty sizes to ensure the end-user has many choices on the job.

Tube & Clamp

Tube and Clamp scaffolding can be used in almost any application. Tubes come in various lengths which make it ideal for use in unconventional areas. By having the versatility to scaffold in and around unusual or confined spaces, Tube and Clamp scaffolds have the ability to address almost any application. It can also be used in conjunction with most Frames and Systems scaffolds making it the most versatile of scaffolding products.

Stair Towers

Stair Towers provide safe access and egress to and from working heights. Armour Equipment supplies both Frame and System Scaffold Stair Towers. Frame Scaffold Stair Towers are designed for quick assembly with little expertise while System Scaffold Stair Towers are more commonly erected by trained scaffolders.

Multi Function Scaffold

Multi-Function Scaffold, or commonly known as Baker’s Scaffold, are designed for interior access. Their narrow design allows for use in hallways and through standard doorways while the truss system allows the user to bridge over common interior obstructions. Light weight components and ease of installation make this a choice for interior trades. Units can be stacked for increased height. Outriggers for added support and Guard Rails are also available.

Shoring Posts

For light to medium duty applications, Shoring Posts allow the user to support temporary loads at variable heights. The Shoring Post is lightweight and adjustable for ease of handling and versatility. It can be used by itself or in conjunction with Steel or Aluminum I-Beams to transfer loading.

I-Beam

The strength and lightweight properties of the aluminum I-beam provide an optimal working combination while bridging spans. Aluminum minimizes the number of total horizontal and vertical members required on the job, compared to wood. Since it is lightweight compared to steel, the contractor realizes labour productivity through ease of use.

Garbage & Debris Chutes

Garbage Chutes provide a quick, clean and safe solution for removal of materials from various heights. Chute sections are tapered tubes that attach quickly and easily to one another using built-in cable assemblies. Create chutes up to 200 ft. in height with top and intermediate entry sections to allow debris to be cleared from any floor level.

System Scaffold

System Scaffold is a flexible, modular system comprised of various sizes of members that allows the user to scaffold almost any shape or structure. Its versatility makes it the choice for most specialty applications but is also becoming more commonly used for Commercial and Residential Projects. It can be used in conjunction with Tube and Clamp Scaffold to further enhance its versatility.

Product Hoist

Portable Material Hoists install easily on existing scaffold systems, work platforms, I-Beams, and rooftop mounting options. They give the ability to control your work flow, schedule, and budget with the most efficient and safe material delivery to any work level. With seven models to choose from, you can move 200 to 2000 lbs of material over 400 ft to access virtually any job level.

The Benefits of Being an Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association Member

July 4th, 2011

The Alberta Wall and Ceiling Association, or AWCA, is a non-profit organization that provides technical information and training to its members. Members of the AWCA include professional tradesmen, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and distributors. There are many benefits of being an AWCA member, including social events such as golfing and curling, and an automatic membership in the Northwest Wall & Ceiling Bureau as well.

1) Education.

The AWCA offers information on both lather ISM and EIFS. A lather is someone who puts together and installs the framework for gypsum in buildings. The training will include both classroom study and technical hands-on training. A lather can either work on his/her own or work with a company. EIFS, or exterior insulation and finish systems, is also known as synthetic stucco. This product has been in use since just after World War II, when it was used to repair buildings damaged in the war.

2) Consumer friendly.

By advertising that you are an AWCA member, customers will know that you are honest, have integrity and are not a fly-by-night company. Members of the AWCA are required to be in business for over a year, have a business licence, be in good financial standing (cannot have filed bankruptcy in the last two years), have a valid WCB number, have liability insurance, and must also be sponsored by two other members. All these requirements mean a customer is guaranteed to have a good experience.

3) Social events.

The AWCA holds everything from curling events, golfing, dances and even a ladies' night. These events not only provide an excellent way to socialize, they are a wonderful way to network as well!

4) Recognition.

Each year the AWCA awards the "project of the year." Past winners have included everything from churches, offices and renovated multistorey buildings. This gives the winner recognition for their effort, plus something to work toward every year.

5) NWCB membership.

The NWCB, or Northwest Wall & Ceiling Bureau, provides its members publications, events and conventions. Examples of publications include a stucco resource guide and information on impacts to labor productivity. Conventions will include seminars, exhibits and of course, social events. The NWCB also issues a quarterly newsletter titled "Change Order," and the Walls & Ceilings Magazine.

Membership with the AWCA can provide you and your employees education, help you sell to and keep clients, recognition, social events and membership to the NWCB as well. The AWCA's goal is simply put, "To better the industry."

The committees are for fall protection, mast climbing, scaffolding, shoring, swingstage and powered elevated work platforms. Each of these committees is chaired by one dedicated expert in the field of the committee. The SIAC also keeps up to date information on the definitions of different types of scaffolding.

Through a members-only part of the SIAC website, members will be able to network and market their business. This provides opportunities on discussion concerns for the industry, or discussing new developments in technology. The SIAC website itself is also a good source of information for the public, as it includes definitions of scaffold, swingstage and PEWP.

How to Choose a Calgary Scaffolding Company

May 2nd, 2011

Scaffolding is a temporary structure for your employees to work above ground safely when constructing, renovating or repairing a building. It can be used by almost any construction trade but also in the film, event, media or theatre industries. When choosing a company for your scaffolding needs, here are some tips to keep in mind.

1) What Are Your Scaffolding Options?

Ensure that the scaffolding company you go with has the options that you need. Do they only sell the scaffolding or do they provide rentals as well? Do they only provide one type of scaffolding, or many? You may want to rent your scaffolding before buying it, to make sure that it meets your needs. Or if you buy, you may need to rent additional items from time to time to help supplement your stock.

2) Does the Calgary Scaffolding Company Meet the Standards?

Look for a company with equipment that meets or exceeds CSA S269.2/Z797 standards. These standards apply to access scaffolding for construction purposes, and are a requirement of the Occupational Health & Safety legislation. Adhering to this standard ensures the scaffolding will be safe for you or your employees to use. The company should also be a member of the SIAC, or the Scaffold Industry Association of Canada to show involvement and conformance to industry standards.

3) Experience.

Knowledge and experience are important factors to consider. A company that can look at your application and help you decide which type and the quantity of scaffolding you need is a huge benefit. This will give you peace of mind that you will have the right equipment for the right job. It will also make sure that you can, in turn, complete your project safely and efficiently while conforming to safety standards. If you require the erection and dismantle of the scaffolding, does having trained and certified installers matter to the success of your project?

4) Hours of Operation.

A company that is available all hours of the day in the event of an emergency is an excellent number to have around. Emergencies and time-sensitive projects do occur, and having an experienced and reputable company that can assist with the issue at any time of the day is a good one to have in your Rolodex.

5) Extra Scaffolding Services.

Does the scaffolding company provide any extras? Some scaffolding companies may require you to clean the rented equipment and others provide this service for free. Do they only service the construction industry or do they have experience with other industries as well? Choosing a company with extensive experience and knowledge in many different applications ensures that you get the best advice.

These tips will help you locate a scaffolding company that will have all the necessary equipment you need, the experience to help you choose your required scaffolding and provide you certified equipment to keep your employees safe.

Armour Equipment Announces 50th Anniversary

April 29th, 2011

Calgary’s Premier Scaffolding Provider Announces 50th Anniversary

Company’s success credited to father and son’s teamwork and commitment to the customer.

Calgary, Alberta – April 26, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Armour Equipment is pleased to announce that May 31, 2011 will officially mark the Calgary business’ 50th year of operation.

Founded in 1961, Armour Equipment is Calgary’s oldest independently owned provider of scaffolding equipment rentals, sales and installation services.  Now a third generation family business, the company prides itself in its establishment of long-term, loyal relationships with its customers, vendors and employees.

“We’re excited to celebrate our 50th year of providing scaffolding services.  Over the years, Armour has developed a client base that has been built on honesty and integrity,” states Charles Maygard, Armour’s General Manager.  “In the years to come, we plan on continually improving our systems and look forward to serving our existing customers and building relationships with new clients through our commitment to friendly, responsive and flexible service.”

The company provides a wide array of the latest and most technically proficient scaffolding equipment and serves Calgary and southern Alberta clients across a variety of industries, including masonry, construction, drywall, roofing, concrete and glazing.

Armour Equipment was originally incorporated on May 31, 1961 by Leo Messier and, at its start; the company featured a total staff of two: Leo and his son, Larry.

In 1970, the company’s reins were handed to Larry Messier, who ran Armour Equipment until 2008 (for 38 years), at which point management of the company was passed to Larry’s son Charles Maygard.  Larry is still involved in assisting with the company’s operations and direction to this day and the company’s success and ability to weather a number of economic recessions is attributed to Larry’s hard work and perseverance.

Charles started with Armour in 1993 as a full-time general labourer and, after learning the ropes, rose to assume the position of General Manager in 2008. With Larry and Charles’ extensive experience in the scaffolding industry, the company has experienced significant growth; including an increase in staff to a current total of 25.  Charles also credits his success to completing a Bachelor of Business Entrepreneurship at Mount Royal University, which he completed in 2003.

“What makes this company so special is the cohesion and combined experience between myself and my father,” adds Charles.  “We both have strong values and we believe that employee satisfaction and customer loyalty will continue to drive the success of Armour Equipment.”

“Larry’s invaluable experience has provided me with an extensive foundation for future growth.  He truly keeps me grounded and focused on what’s important; providing a focus on growing organically and staying true to our past and the relationships that have helped us get where we are today.  I am amazed that, still to this day, we both maintain the same philosophies.  This gives me great confidence in the future success of this company as we continue to transition the operation of the business into our third generation.”

To commemorate its 50th year of business, Armour Equipment has undertaken a rebrand of its visual identity, including the development of a new logo and website, located at www.armourscaffold.ca.

Armour Equipment has maintained its current location at 5316 4th St. SE since 1981 (for 30 years).
